The Emerson Park Welcome Mat pays tribute to three extraordinary women, whose life's work symbolize the impact individuals can have in improving their community. Dance pioneer Katherine Dunham, community activist Ceola Davis and settlement house founder Lessie Bates are profiled in the center of the design. The design includes arrowheads, referencing Cahokia Mounds, and "Connecting Hands" representing the strong sense of community in the Emerson Park neighborhood. Design by Edna Patterson-Petty.
